Jesus is Coming

The way we live here and now should be done in light of living with Jesus for eternity. We need to make sure we are self-controlled and have hope. Jesus is coming and it will be great news for the believers and bad news for His enemies. When Jesus comes again, His believers will be saying oh yes! Not oh no! When we are self-controlled we make sure that we do what we are supposed to do, living to please Him not ourselves. Jesus died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep, we would live with Him. We do what we do, to please Him. How is your view of authority? Whether or not we follow Him, God is the Ruler over everything. Romans 13 was written while Nero was Emperor, and yet the believers were told to submit. We are told in this passage to warn those who are idle and to be patient with everyone. Chapter 5 verses 16-18 shows the will of God in our lives. When the Holy Spirit begins to work in our lives, He changes things so that we look more like Christ. God makes the change from the inside out. Don't waste your life on the things of this world, live for Jesus He's coming again.

Parental Encouragement

In this passage, Paul, is reminding the believers of what they already knew. Paul wanted the believers at Thessalonica to follow him as he followed Christ. As Christians, our lives are invested in service. God has entrusted us with the gospel and we need to make sure we treat it well. We need to get courage from God in order to share the good news. People can be fooled but God is never fooled. God tests the heart and knows what is going on in the inside. We should not live our lives trying to please everyone else. Parents are to be gentle, encouraging, and a comfort to their children. The Bible is God's word and if you believe it, it will work in you.

Words To A Young Church

The Thessalonians did not know Jesus was the Messiah, they did not know the salvation of the Lord. It is important to thank God for all of the people in the church. If you believe in Jesus Christ, it is because God has chosen to take the "blinders" off of you. If we are genuinely devoted to following Jesus Christ, we will outwardly bringing the Gospel to people everywhere. We have to guard against idols. Paul speaks of the Lord Jesus coming back and he starts if off by speaking about His coming wrath. We know the great love of Jesus because He has saved His children from God's wrath.
