Glory in the Cross

Paul is closing his letter to the Galatians with emphasis on boasting in the cross, an emblem of suffering and shame. The message of the cross is that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. The effect of the cross is that the world is crucified to you. It is of no value to you. The cross does something the outward flesh can't. It makes a new creature. What do you glory in? Are you boasting in Christ's cross or are you enamored by the world?

Sowing to the Spirit

There are two fields: flesh and spirit. Which field are you planting in and what kind of seed are you sowing? We are told in this passage to do good. Seize opportunities, be excited about opportunities, pray for opportunities, and take advantage of opportunities. Do good to ALL! It is easy to become weary when you're compassionate, but keep sowing. You'll reap in due season when God is ready.

Are you willing to get up under the weight of the burdens of others and help carry? You can only do this by the Spirit.
Living Out Walking by the Spirit

Paul has laid out our position in Christ in the first few chapters of Galatians and now he has moved to the practicality of this truth: walk by the Spirit and not the flesh. When one is caught in sin, ones who are walking by the Spirit should approach them in gentleness and set them back in place. Don't just tell them about their wrong, stick with them through the process. But watch yourself if you're the one who is seeking to help restore because you are also susceptible to sin.

Fruit Produced by the Spirit (Part 2)

The only way we can do what God tells us to do is by divine power. The Spirit must dwell within us. When we abide in Christ, our lives will produce a multifaceted singular fruit of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, meekness, and self-control. Is this fruit being displayed in your life?

When you walk by the Spirit, you will produce fruit of the Spirit. The fruit comes from abiding in Christ and His character is produced in our behavior. All these characteristics work together. Here, we take a closer look at the first two characteristics of this fruit cluster: love and joy.

Paul paints what it looks like to walk in the flesh. If you're not in the Word of God, there's no doubt you're struggling in the flesh with sexual deception, religious deception, and social destruction. If the actions described in this passage mark your lifestyle, you will not inherit the kingdom of God. If the Spirit is in you, He will lead, guide, and correct you.

Freedom gives us the power to do as we should do. Before we are given freedom, we are in bondage to sin. Here, the Galatians have trusted Christ, but they have put themselves back under the law...back in bondage. The flesh is constantly battling with the Spirit, but in Christ, we don't live a "have-to" type life, we live a "want-to" type life.

The law shows our inability in the flesh to please God. It demands perfection and so we are all cursed. No one is justified by the law, but by faith.

Justified By Faith

Paul confronted Peter for being a hypocrite in this situation. He reminded him that they of all people as Jews know that man cannot be justified by the works of the law. Peter had said so himself in Acts 15. Paul then goes on to discuss the beautiful doctrine of justification. We are declared not guilty, not by works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ!

The more confidence you have in God's Word, the bolder you will be. Here, Paul continued to confront the Judaizers who were trying to blend works with grace and Titus also stood firm in the truth that Jesus is enough.

The only way people's hearts and lives wil lchange is by the grace of God and to know the grace of God, they must hear the Gospel. Are you a people-pleaser, a self-pleaser, or a God-pleaser? Are you living your life in such a way that others are glorifying God because of you?

Paul was upset that Judaizers were infiltrating the church at Galatia with false doctrine and was astonished that the Galatians were turning away so quickly. Works and grace don't mix for salvation. When you add works to grace, it's no longer grace.

Intro to Galatians

The church at Galatia was close to Paul's heart and he was upset that deceivers had crept in. He writes the Galatians to confront them because they are going in error. He first defends his apostleship and authority then reminds them of the grace, peace, and deliverance that has been brought to them!
