He did what he did out of duty and not from his heart. Jonah wanted all the grace and mercy God had for him but wanted destruction for his enemies. He was more concerned about material possessions than thousands of lives. Here God had told Jonah to go preach to the people of Nineveh but Jonah had refused to do has he was told. His disobedience cost him dearly. After taking a trip inside that fish Jonah was now willing to go and preach but it doesn't appear that he offered them the same grace and mercy God had showed him as that he only preached destruction and said nothing about how to avoid it. It would appear he was not going with a heart of true repentance.
