Revelation (5)

This Bible study concludes a two-year study of Scripture by unveiling Revelation's ultimate vision: the triumph of God's kingdom over all earthly systems of evil, symbolized by Babylon the Great, which represents humanity's fallen civilization in perpetual rebellion against God. Through a non-linear, symbolic narrative, the text portrays Babylon's destruction as a divine judgment on idolatry, exploitation, and the persecution of God's people, culminating in a universal reckoning where the wicked are judged and the saints are vindicated. The final victory is not merely a defeat of enemies but the establishment of New Jerusalem—a glorious, eternal city where God dwells with His redeemed people, free from death, sorrow, and sin, fulfilling the biblical arc from Eden to consummation. The teaching emphasizes that this future is a present hope, calling believers to remain faithful, reject Babylon's seductions, and eagerly await Christ's return, whose imminent coming is both a promise and a summons to perseverance, joy, and holy living.

Revelation (4)

Revelation presents a cosmic battle between God's people and Satan, culminating in Christ's victory through His incarnation, death, resurrection, and ascension, which decisively defeated Satan's power to accuse believers in heaven. God's people, symbolized as a woman in labor, is protected by God during the inter-advent age—marked by 1,260 days, 42 months, or 3.5 years—while enduring persecution and false religion as Satan, now cast down to earth, wages a frustrated war against God's faithful. This spiritual conflict is not a physical war (like World War I) but a battle for ultimate allegiance, with two opposing systems: the worship of God and the Lamb, represented by the sealed 144,000 and the great multitude, and the worship of the beast and false prophet, symbolizing worldly power and idolatry. Though the beast and false prophet wield temporary authority, their reign is doomed, and their ultimate fate is eternal judgment, while the faithful, who remain steadfast through trials, are promised eternal rest and a new song in heaven. The book concludes with a stark contrast between Babylon the Great, the city of man destined for destruction, and the New Jerusalem, the eternal city of God, calling believers to choose eternal allegiance to Christ over the fleeting systems of this age.

Revelation (3)

The sermon presents an interpretation of Revelation's judgment cycles—particularly the seals and trumpets—as symbolic portrayals of conditions during the inter-advental age leading to final judgment. Central to this view is the connection between Revelation 6 and Christ's Olivet Discourse. In Revelation 6, four horsemen symbolize enduring conditions of conquest, war, famine, economic scarcity, and uncomfortable death, while the sixth seal signals the end of the world with cosmic disturbances (in accordance with many Old Testament prophecies). The interludes in chapters 7 and 10-14 reveal God's protective sealing of His people and the dual nature of the church's existence in the world—having God's spiritual protection, but vulnerable to persecution. The trumpet judgments are not a sequential description of literal events in our world but symbolic of disasters and distresses (ecological disasters and demonic oppression) in the present age that are foretastes of final judgment and literarily rooted in Revelation's New Exodus motif. Ultimately, the seventh trumpet marks the consummation of God's purposes, affirming that Christ has already (from the perspective of the vision) come in power and established the Kingdom of God. The church's mission today is to remain faithful to its prophetic witness and to be hopeful in the midst of the inter-advental age (the Great Tribulation), awaiting the final victory of the Lamb and the reward promised by foretaste in the seventh trumpet. As the saints come out of the tribulation, they enter heaven victorious with the promise that soon the waters of life will be theirs.

Revelation (2)

The book of Revelation is presented as a visionary prophecy and epistolary message from Christ to the seven churches of Asia Minor, revealing God's sovereign plan for history's culmination. Central to the book is the high Christology of Jesus as the Alpha and Omega, the resurrected and reigning Son of Man, who is both the victorious Lamb and the divine Lion of Judah, worthy to open the scroll of God's redemptive destiny. The vision of God's throne room in chapters four and five establishes the cosmic reality of divine sovereignty, where worship is directed to both the Father and the Lamb, affirming a unified divine identity and the universal scope of redemption. The messages to the seven churches serve as a pastoral call to faithfulness, exposing spiritual conditions ranging from doctrinal rigor without love to lukewarm complacency, urging believers to heed the Spirit's voice and persevere. Ultimately, Revelation unfolds as a dramatic narrative of God's judgment and redemption, culminating in the establishment of the new creation, where the redeemed—drawn from every tribe and nation—will reign with Christ, worshiping the Father and the Lamb as one God.

Revelation (1)

Revelation is presented as apocalyptic literature, visionary prophecy, and an epistolary missive, revealing God's ultimate triumph over evil through symbolic visions, angelic mediators, and divine revelation. It is not a cryptic puzzle but a theologically rich text rooted in the Old Testament, where imagery and numbers are symbolic rather than literal, pointing to the spiritual realities of Christ's present reign and future consummation. The book's structure unfolds through four visionary moments, moving from the condition of the seven churches to the judgment of Babylon and the establishment of the New Jerusalem, emphasizing faithful endurance amid persecution. While various interpretive approaches—historicism, preterism, futurism, idealism, and eclecticism—offer differing lenses, the idealist-spiritualist view is affirmed as most faithful to Revelation's genre, highlighting the ongoing spiritual conflict and God's redemptive plan across history. Ultimately, Revelation calls believers to steadfast faith, obedience, and hope in Christ's return, inviting them to persevere in the present age with the assurance of eternal life in the new creation.

2-3 John & Jude

The sermon presents a unified theological vision across 2 John, 3 John, and Jude, emphasizing the inseparable connection between doctrinal fidelity (orthodoxy) and ethical living (orthopraxy) as essential to Christian faithfulness. Central to each letter is the call to contend for the apostolic faith—rejecting false teachers who deny Christ's incarnation or pervert grace into license, while actively supporting genuine gospel workers. The author underscores that true fellowship with God is only possible through adherence to Christ's incarnate reality, and believers must exercise discernment by neither welcoming deceptive teachers nor neglecting faithful ones, as both actions have spiritual consequences. Through vivid imagery from Scripture and history, the message warns against antinomianism, pride, and moral compromise, while exhorting believers to build themselves up in faith through prayer, holiness, and hope in Christ's return, all grounded in God's sovereign preservation of His people.

The central message of 1 John is a call to discern true saving fellowship with God through the inseparable connection of orthodox belief, ethical living, and genuine love for fellow believers. Drawing on the twin truths that God is light and love, the letter establishes that authentic faith is evidenced by walking in moral purity, rejecting the world's sinful desires, and actively loving others—especially within the church community. John emphasizes that true believers, marked by the Holy Spirit's anointing, remain in Christ by abiding in apostolic doctrine and practicing righteousness, while those who depart from the faith, deny Christ's incarnation and atonement, and manifest hatred toward the brethren reveal they were never truly born of God. The ultimate test of faith is not mere profession but a life characterized by love, obedience, and perseverance in truth, with the hope of future glorification in Christ, who is the true God and eternal life. The letter concludes with a warning to remain vigilant against false teachings and idols, affirming that eternal life is found only in the Son of God, and that those who abide in Him are kept from the evil one.

The central message of 1 John is a call to discern true fellowship with God through the inseparable connection of orthodox belief and ethical living, grounded in the apostolic testimony of Christ's incarnation. Drawing on Johannine themes such as light versus darkness, truth versus deception, and love versus hatred, the epistle establishes that genuine faith is marked by belief in Jesus Christ as the incarnate Son of God, obedience to His commandments, and love for fellow believers. The author, writing to a community shaken by a schism caused by false teachers who denied Christ's humanity and embraced a Gnostic-like worldview, affirms that true believers are those who remain in apostolic teaching, confess their sins, walk in the light, and are empowered by the Holy Spirit to overcome the world. The purpose of the letter is to assure believers of their salvation and joy by providing clear, practical tests—doctrinal, ethical, and relational—through which one can know they are in communion with God, rooted in the historical reality of Christ's life, death, and resurrection.

James (1)

Mark Hogan explains that James contrasts true faith, demonstrated by works and love for neighbor, with nominal faith – mere verbal claims without practical expression. He uses examples of Abraham and Rahab to illustrate how faith is proven by actions and emphasizes that faith without works is dead. Hogan addresses the misconception of a works-less faith, highlighting that genuine faith inevitably produces good works and that true religion involves love, charity, and holiness. He also cautions against partiality in faith, urging believers to love both the rich and the poor equally.

Mark Hogan's sermon unpacked Hebrews 10-13, emphasizing that the Mosaic covenant's sacrifices were merely shadows of the ultimate, completed work of Christ. He explained that Christ's single, perfect sacrifice renders further offerings unnecessary, signifying a complete atonement and offering believers boldness to approach God through faith. The call is to persevere in faith, viewing trials as opportunities for spiritual growth, and to look forward to the completion of God's promises, imitating the faith of Old Testament saints who eagerly awaited the fulfillment of those promises.

Mark Hogan's sermon cautioned against drifting from faith, emphasizing that warnings aren't pronouncements of doom but encouragements to persevere. He explored Hebrews 6:4-5, clarifying that these verses target professing believers at risk of falling away, not all who hear the gospel. Hogan stressed that genuine believers exhibit traits like doctrinal understanding and experience of the Holy Spirit, and falling away renders repentance impossible. He explained the author's aim wasn's to condemn, but to spur ongoing commitment to Christ, the priest in the order of Melchizedek, who, by virtue of his eternal priesthood, offers a better, lasting hope for believers.

2 Thessalonians

Brother Andrew has been teaching about 2 Thessalonians and the concept of the Antichrist. He emphasized that the Antichrist is not a single individual but a system or an institution that exalts itself against God. In his view, the Roman Catholic Church's claims of supreme authority and its sacraments are forms of idolatry that take the place of Christ in people's lives. This understanding aligns with the Reformed interpretation of 2 Thessalonians 2, which suggests that the Antichrist is a historical entity that has already been revealed in the past. Brother Andrew provided evidence from Catholic documents and teachings to support his claims about the Roman Catholic Church being the Antichrist. He also discussed how some Catholics may not be aware of or agree with these teachings, and how this can lead to a mix of Catholicism and Protestantism in their beliefs. Throughout his teaching, Brother Andrew stressed the importance of holding fast to the apostolic traditions as found in Scripture, rather than being influenced by human innovations or institutions. He encouraged listeners to stand firm in their faith and to look forward to Christ's return, when He will judge all those who do not know Him and obey His gospel. The speaker also made a point that there is no single year or moment when the Pope became the Antichrist but rather it was a slow process of accumulation of power and influence over time.

Paul's letter to the Colossians emphasizes the supremacy and sole sufficiency of Christ for their entire salvation. He warns against supplementing Christ with other practices or teachings, which he calls "ascetic" practice. Paul exhorts the believers to seek the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God, and to put off the old man with its deeds, including sinful desires and corrupt thoughts. Instead, they should put on the new man, characterized by humility, kindness, and forgiveness. As Christians, they are no longer bound by their former nature but have been raised with Christ, making it possible for them to overcome sin and live according to God's will. Paul encourages the believers to walk in wisdom towards those outside the church and to redeem the time by engaging in fruitful endeavors. He also emphasizes the importance of prayer, citing Epaphras as an example of someone who labors in prayer for the believers. Throughout the letter, Paul's main point is that Christ is sufficient for their salvation, and they should not rely on other means or practices to achieve it.

Paul emphasizes the importance of rejoicing in Christ despite the difficulties and struggles of life. He encourages his readers to rejoice in one another, in their fellowship and unity in the church, and in their devotion to holy aspiration for life in the age to come. Paul's attitude towards adversity is a key takeaway from the passage, as he shows that even in poverty and prosperity, he finds contentment through Christ who strengthens him. Paul also highlights the significance of conduct worthy of the gospel of Christ, encouraging his readers to live out their faith in a way that reflects their relationship with God. He stresses the importance of living in harmony with one another, having like-mindedness, affection for one another, and mercy towards each other. Through prayer, Paul asks God to help them work out their salvation with fear and trembling, knowing that He is at work in them to create what is pleasing in His sight through their good works. The passage concludes with a request for maturity, recognizing that while they may be citizens of the United States, their true citizenship is in heaven. Paul prays that God would help them eagerly await the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform them to be conformed into his glorious body through His power.

Ephesians

Paul teaches on spiritual gifts in Ephesians 1:3-14. He explains that God chose us before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. We were predestined to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to his pleasure and will. In Christ, we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, and an eternal inheritance. Paul then teaches on spiritual wisdom, praying for the believers' understanding of the mystery of Christ. He describes this mystery as the plan of the ages, hidden from eternity but now revealed in Christ through the scriptures. In Ephesians 2:1-10, Paul explains that we were once dead in our transgressions and sins, following the course of this world and governed by the ruler of the air (Satan). But God, being rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in our trespasses. Paul teaches on unity in Ephesians 2:11-22. He explains that the Gentiles were once separated from Christ, having no hope and without God in this world. But now they have become fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets. In Ephesians 3:1-13, Paul prays for spiritual wisdom to understand the mystery of Christ. He describes this mystery as the unsearchable riches of Christ, which are now made known through the scriptures. Paul teaches on marriage and family in Ephesians 5-6. Husbands should love their wives as Christ loved the church, sacrificing themselves for her. Wives should submit to their husbands, just as the church submits to Christ. Children...

He emphasizes that justification comes through faith alone, not through works or circumcision. Paul explains that the law was given to reveal sin, but it cannot save us from our sinful nature. Instead, we are justified by faith in Christ's death and resurrection. The Galatians' struggle with the Old Covenant's demands and the temptation to return to Jewish customs is seen as a desire for slavery rather than freedom in Christ. Paul uses the example of Abraham and his two sons, Ishmael and Isaac, to illustrate the contrast between the old and new covenants. He writes that those who are children of God through faith are like Isaac, while those who try to be justified by law are like Ishmael, born of a slave woman and destined for slavery. Paul argues that Gentiles who put their faith in Jesus Christ are the true children of Abraham and therefore members of the Israel of God. Throughout the letter, Paul emphasizes the importance of living out our faith through love and service to others, rather than trying to fulfill the law's demands. He warns against the dangers of boasting in the flesh or seeking justification through works, instead urging his readers to boast only in the cross of Christ. The letter concludes with a final declaration that those who belong to Jesus Christ constitute God's Israel, reconstituted through the New Covenant and surrounded by faith in the Lord Jesus.

Dr. Voddie Baucham explains the book of 2 Corinthians, emphasizing its autobiographical and raw nature, as well as its focus on interpersonal relationships and ministry validation. He discusses the Corinthian church's potential swaying by super apostles and Paul's defense of his ministry. The book highlights the importance of humility and dependence on God's strength, as seen in Paul's thorn in the flesh. Baucham also touches on the Holy Kiss, personal property, and community of goods, emphasizing that early Christian communities were not communist but rather shared resources among members. He prays for the congregation to have a correct view of giving, avoiding error, and prioritizing the true apostolic gospel.

Paul preached about his weaknesses and how God's power is perfected in them. He wrote to the Corinthians about their sin and encouraged them to live a life of righteousness rooted in Christ. Paul also emphasized the importance of mortifying works of sin and vivifying work of righteousness in one's life.

Dr. Steve Lawson discussed various sections of 1 Corinthians, focusing on the church's worship, spiritual gifts, and the resurrection of Christ. He emphasized that the Corinthian church was not following Paul's gospel correctly and were denying the doctrine of bodily resurrection to come. Paul defends the idea of Christ's resurrection, stating that it is a fundamental aspect of the Christian faith. Dr. Lawson explained the concept of tongues in the context of 1 Corinthians 12-14, arguing that they should be used for edification and not just as a means to demonstrate spiritual gifts. He also discussed the importance of love in the church, emphasizing that without love, even the most impressive gifts are worthless. The discussion then turned to 1 Corinthians 15, where Paul defends the idea of Christ's resurrection. Dr. Lawson highlighted the significance of Christ's resurrection as the firstfruits of resurrection life and emphasized that this concept should motivate believers to live holy lives, knowing that their labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Paul writes to the Corinthians about various issues within their church. He addresses a man who is committing sexual immorality and tells them to expel him from the church, handing him over to Satan so that he may be saved through the purging of his flesh. Paul reminds them that Christ's death on the cross makes it possible for believers to live holy lives, free from sinful behaviors. Paul also warns against suing one another in court, reminding them that they will judge the world and should be able to adjudicate smaller matters within their church community. He exhorts them to stop wronging one another and to remember that God will bring judgment against those who continue in sin. In addition, Paul addresses issues related to marriage, telling husbands to render affection to their wives and vice versa. He emphasizes the importance of a strong sexual relationship within marriage and reminds believers that they are not their own, but belong to God. Throughout his letter, Paul returns to the gospel message, reminding believers that Christ's death on the cross makes it possible for them to live holy lives, free from sinful behaviors.

Mark Hogan emphasizes that Christians are called to live a life of humble service in response to God's mercies revealed through Christ Jesus. He instructs believers to present themselves as living sacrifices, urging them to use their bodies for the service of God and others. Hogan underscores the importance of being transformed by renewing our minds according to God's will, which includes showing love and hospitality within the church community, maintaining peace with all people including unbelievers, and fulfilling legal obligations like paying taxes out of a sense of conscience. The sermon also addresses how Christians should relate to civil authorities and fellow believers while navigating disputable matters without judgment or causing offense. Hogan encourages the congregation to approach these issues with humility, love, and an attitude that seeks peace and edification rather than contention.

Mike Waldron spoke about Romans chapter 11. He discussed various views on the interpretation of "until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in" and argued for a third view that the full number of elect Jews is being saved throughout this age, simultaneously with the fullness of the Gentiles coming to faith in Christ. This view aligns with Paul's employment of the cultivated olive tree metaphor in Romans 11 and his strategic placement of a third "now" in 11:30-31. Waldron noted that this view acknowledges the partial hardening of Israel throughout this age but believes God always has a remnant according to grace. He emphasized that the mystery Paul is advocating for is not about Gentiles being superior, but rather that through Gentile faith, God is provoking Jews to jealousy so as to save some.

Mark Hogan emphasizes that Paul's struggle in this passage is a reflection of our own internal conflict as believers between our desire to do good and our sinful nature which prevents us from fully obeying God's law. Even though we delight in God's moral demands and understand their depth, our fleshly desires constantly lead us into sin. However, there is hope for Christians through Christ Jesus who has won redemption for us and married us to Himself. We are delivered from the condemnation of sins because He does not count evil against us. Through the Holy Spirit's power, we can live in newness of life as we persevere character that is produced by tribulations, which leads to hope.

Mark Hogan's sermon emphasized the transformative power of God's grace as exemplified by Paul's conversion on the Damascus Road and its pivotal role in shaping his ministry. The message highlighted the importance of preaching Christ, being witnesses to His saving activity, and facing suffering with steadfast faith. Hogan encouraged listeners to seek opportunities for bold proclamation of Christ's gospel, relying on God's sovereign grace to bring about salvation through Jesus. He stressed the significance of Scripture in preaching, particularly in a Gentile context where idolatry was rampant. Hogan concluded by praying for opportunities to witness, effective preaching that leads to conversion, and comfort amidst any suffering encountered in spreading Christ's message, all while trusting in the sovereign plan of God throughout history as demonstrated in Acts 1-28.

In his sermon on John's Gospel and its unique themes and structure, Mark Hogan highlights that God sent John to bear witness so others might believe in Jesus as the Christ, leading to spiritual life. He emphasizes John's distinctive focus on Jesus' divine preexistence with the Father, being the Word who created all things. The Gospel presents a robust Trinitarian relationship and unique conversations between Jesus and key figures like Nathaniel and Nicodemus. Hogan notes that John omits many synoptic stories but adds significant details like Christ's eternal origin as the pre-incarnate Word of God, focusing on themes such as signs, witness, and Jesus being sent by God the Father. The sermon concludes with an emphasis on belief in Jesus for spiritual life, a central theme throughout John's Gospel, which Hogan encourages his audience to embrace through faith.

Mark Hogan delves into pivotal moments of Jesus' life in Luke chapters 19 to 24, emphasizing His triumphal entry into Jerusalem as a fulfillment of prophecy and a precursor to His betrayal, suffering, death, and resurrection. He underlines the spiritual significance of these events for believers, highlighting Jesus' obedience to God's will despite knowing His impending rejection by Israel, which would ultimately lead to their nation's downfall. Hogan points out that Christ instituted the Lord's Supper on what became known as The Last Supper and clarifies the meaning behind this new covenant in His blood for believers. Throughout his sermon, he interweaves Old Testament prophecies with New Testament fulfillments to illustrate Jesus' role as the ultimate sacrifice bringing forth salvation from sin. He draws attention to Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection, explaining their cosmic importance and how they herald a new era of God's direct rule on Earth through His kingdom. Hogan concludes by encouraging believers to live in anticipation of Christ's return, remaining faithful to the gospel message, understanding its profound implications from scripture, and being active witnesses of Jesus' life-changing power both now and for future generations.

Mark Hogan emphasizes that Jesus Christ's ministry in Jerusalem is marked by swift action and a crescendo towards His crucifixion, as depicted in the Gospel of Mark. The message focuses on understanding Jesus' identity as the Messiah—the Son of God come to serve rather than be served, ultimately giving His life as a ransom for many, which is foundational to Christian discipleship. Hogan highlights that Peter initially misunderstands Christ's purpose and nature but later comes to recognize Him fully after Jesus' death and resurrection. The sermon underscores the necessity of suffering in understanding Messiahship—beyond political liberation, pointing to a new exodus through Christ. It also explores controversies surrounding Jesus' healings and teachings that reveal His true identity amidst misunderstandings by religious leaders. Finally, Hogan speaks about the anticipation of Jesus' return as the culmination of God's redemptive history and the establishment of a new kingdom where servitude is valued over greatness, reflecting Christ's own humility and sacrifice for humanity.

Matthew (2)

Mark Hogan discusses Jesus' prophecies about tribulation and judgment in Jerusalem surrounding its destruction by Roman forces as a sign of his coming to establish the Kingdom on Earth. He interprets "the days of vengeance" mentioned in Matthew 24:15-16 as referring to the period starting with the siege that leads up to AD 70, when Jesus warns those in Judea and Jerusalem about a great tribulation where no one will be saved except for the endurance of a few. After this time of wrath is fulfilled, according to Luke 21:24, Gentiles will take control until "the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled," which aligns with Matthew's statement about immediate signs following tribulation days. He emphasizes the importance of being ready and faithful witnesses for Christ's return and the completion of God's plan during these last days before Jesus' second coming, even as a process is still unfolding.

Matthew (1)

Mark Hogan presents an in-depth exploration of Matthew chapters five through seven and eight to nine, focusing on Jesus' teachings and miracles as evidence of His identity as both Son of God and Messiah. He emphasizes that Jesus is greater than the temple, greater than Jonah, and has authority over disease, disasters, demonic realms, and death itself. The miracles are seen as confirmations of His divine authority, messages about the kingdom to come, and indicators of spiritual help provided by Christ. Hogan highlights Jesus' compassionate approach, including never rejecting those with faith, always healing in their presence, and his willingness to fulfill all righteousness as Israel's Messiah. He prays for God's guidance to believe in Christ's testimony at His baptism, to be enclosed by Jesus' righteveeessence through the law of love, hunger after perfect righteousness, and craving a purity that comes from a relationship with Him, rather than personal merit.
