The Armour of God (Part 3) - The Shoes of Peace

Satan has a plethora of ways to attack Christians; we must take up every piece of God's armour. We are all drafted into the Lord Sabaoth's army. But He has dealt the deathblow to Satan, has given us the Spirit and Gospel gifts to fend off the foe and further Christ's kingdom. It is not enough to know the Gospel but to put it on, to put on Christ. We tread on rough spiritual terrain, and need shoes to guard us. In Roman times, combat boots gave proper, firm footing, as well as balance. So also, the shoes of peace provide stability, security, and mobility in the Christian walk, making us ready for battle. The shoes are put on by faith. In Christ, we have peace with God. We must put on the true peace of the true Gospel offered by the true God. There is no peace with God outside of Jesus Christ. We were estranged from God and enemies of Him. God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. Rom 5 – No justification means no peace. We must be justified by faith to have peace with God (v1). We were enemies (v10), ungodly (v6) and sinners (v8). Eph 2 – We were dead in trespasses (v1), children deserving of God's wrath (v3). We had no hope, without God in the world (v12). Christ Himself is our peace (v14), and He came to reconcile us to God, killing the hostility between us and God (v16) Other religions say the problem is outside of us. The Bible says the problem is within: our sin. We cannot find peace without but on only outside of us, in Christ. Only His blood frees us. The Gospel is more than God's forgiveness, but that we have friendship, intimacy, and fellowship with God. Not only has He justified us, but we are accepted and adopted.

The Armour of God (Part 2) - The Breastplate of Righteousness

How does God feel about you right now? Often, our answer reverts to a works mindset. This leads to either self-despair when we sin, and self-righteousness when we do good. We look to ourselves, which is pride. Satan tries to keep us from knowing Christ, either initially or further. It is impossible to stand unless we put on the breastplate of righteousness. However, we must not put on the wrong breastplate of self-righteousness. The breastplate was used to protect the most vital organs of the soldier. Likewise, the spiritual breastplate protects our hearts, which we must guard. (Prov 4:23) But first we are to put on the belt of truth. The breastplate we put on must be based on truth of the Bible. Paul is talking about Christ's righteousness. Isa 59:17 – We can't deliver ourselves; God must bring us salvation, and He puts on the breastplate of righteousness. Our inherent righteousness is insufficient. The breastplate in Eph 6 is the same oneGod puts on in Isa 59. This is imputed righteousness. We have no righteousness that meets God's qualifications, as we must be perfect as He is. We need someone to credit their righteousness to our account. If we believe in Christ, His righteousness is accounted to us; our sin is accounted to Him. (2 Cor 5:21) As with Joshua in Zech 3:1-4, God removes our old rags and gives us a new one: Christ's righteousness. Phil 3:3ff – As a Pharisee, Paul had the wrong breastplate of righteousness: his worthless works. But now his old self-righteousness is removed and Christ's is imputed. What God demands, God supplies for us in Christ. Matt 11:28, those weary with labour can find rest in Christ. Focus on Him!

Children, Honor Your Father & Mother

Here Paul transforms the basic element of society, the family, and speaks to us on how to live in light of the Gospel. When we let kids call the shots, we break God's order and deceive them. They learn to reject authority, negatively affecting society. The relationship between parent and child is a picture of our relationship to God (Prov 3:11-12, Heb 12:5-11) 1. WHO? Children (Gk. tenkon) of any age who live under their parents. Here Paul addresses children, which shows that we must let children hear the Word preached as well. 2. WHAT? OBEY (Gk. hupakouo) Children, are to come under their rank by coming under their own parent's words. Children are to obey promptly, continually, and absolutely, not only at certain times (eg. church), which teaches hypocrisy. Children must obey their parents in the Lord. They must be in the Lord to do so. HONOUR (Gk. timao – to set a price on, value) God has given the parents their office. It is not enough for outward moral conformity. Obedience deals with actions; honour deals with attitudes. 3. WHY? IT IS RIGHT (Gk. dikaios) Even in common grace, unbelievers recognize that children ought to obey their parents. GOD SAYS SO (Ex 20; Deut 5) In the Ten Commandments.. This command bridges the first vertical (with God) commandments to the remain horizontal (with others) commandments. PROMISE This promise holds true for obedient Christian children. Those who have a new heart will live a long and well in the new heavens and earth. CONCLUSION Ex 19. - If we obey God, we will be a kingdom of priests to the nations. Obedience to parents shows evangelistic ramifications. Whitefield – You must be born again.

The Gospel Mystery of Marriage

Marriage is a beautiful illustration of the gospel of the Christ. It shows God's infinite, unfailing love for sinners. Here, Paul want's to show us what it looks like to live in light of the Gospel. Chapters 1 to 3 – Our salvation and God's redemption in sovereign grace Chapters 4 to 6 – Our sanctification and our response in submissive gratitude WHY (The remarkable revelation) The earthly one-flesh union of husbands and wives in marriage is a beautiful picture of the heavenly one-flesh union of Christ and His church. Marriage is the most intimate relationship on earth. How much more intimate Christ's love for his church? The Gospel is a mystery; God has hidden but revealed to His people. If the Spirit shows you that marriage illustrates our relationship with Christ, how you treat your spouse will be radically different. HOW (A rudimentary review) Husbands love. This is a sacrificial, sanctifying love that is sensible. It must be unconditional and towards his own wife. Focus on her. Spend your time loving her. Wives respect. While men try to dominate with strength, women try to dominate with shame. Before wives can submit to their husbands, they must respect him. All Christians are to submit one another (v21) out of reverence for Christ. Look to Him. HOW TO HOW v5:18 – Be filled with the spirit. Confess unrepentant sin. Pray believingly, behold Christ, become like Him through the Spirit. The more the bridegroom loves his bride, the more costly his expression of his love and commitment. Christ gave Himself! His token is not a ring, but His broken body and shed blood. Behold the beauty of the love of Christ. Gaze on that picture. Look to Christ!

True sacrificial love is sanctifying love. If you truly love your wife you will make her holiness a priority in your life. God chose us before the foundation of the world that we might be holy and blameless before Him in love. Husbands are to make their wives blameless and holy before Christ in love. It is an intentional, determined, particular, sacrificial love. 1. The cost of sanctifying love Wives will never flourish unless you give yourself up for her and her good. It is a continuous habitual practice. Husbands must lay down their lives to better the wife's walk with Christ. This is not literal, but it is about the everyday sacrifices. 2. The agent of sanctifying love Though we experience an initial washing, we need repeated inward washing (John 13). There are three agents: the Word (Eph 5), the Spirit (Titus 3), and the blood of Christ (1 John 1:7). The Spirit of Christ uses the Word of Christ, which declares the blood of Christ. Husbands must make sure their wife is washed in the water of the Word . Husbands, sacrifice yourself for time with your wife in the Word. Be the one leading devotions and church attendance. Sacrifice your time so wives can spend time with other godly women. 3. The goal of sanctifying love Husbands are preparing their wife for her wedding to her true Husband. God gives us wives to make her the person Jesus wants: glorious, no spot or wrinkle, holy and without blemish. It is the husbands role to take the initiative to make their wife beautiful for our King (cf. Haggai in Esther) Finally, Jesus put our needs ahead of His own and died not cause we were holy, but to make us holy. Husbands, die to make your wife holy.

Husbands, Love Sacrificially

God is bringing all things under Christ's headship, through the Church (Eph 1:10, 3:10), which is composed of families. Spiritually healthy families produce spiritually healthy churches. Healthy outreach comes from healthy inreach. A husband's primary sphere of influence is his family. God's normal way to bring His Kingdom is subtle like leaven. Don't feel inferior for not bringing great revivals. Discipleship is a life-long process of making Christ followers, primarily your wife. Kind of love Sacrificial. A true disciple is one who takes up his cross daily, denies himself, and loves his wife. He is to love the wife AS Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her. A godly wife seeks to submit to a husband who leads like Christ. Degree of love Costly. Christ gave His best: Himself. Husbands must give themselves to their wives. Wives want their husbands and not to be bought with other things. Since Christ loves His bride, He Himself comes down and tabernacles with her. Object of love Your wife. Men love other things: jobs, hobbies, ministries. Paul doesn't say to love those. Humble yourself. Ask your wife if there's anything she feels second to, what she'd like you to give up to spend more time with her. Frequency of love Continually. It's not a one time event, but a settled, committed, intentional love. Christ's love isn't wavering. A husband loves even when she has nothing to offer him; we have nothing to offer Christ. Conclusion Husbands cannot obey Eph 2:25. God gives grace to the humble. Gaze upon Christ. Be filled with Him, with the Spirit, and you'll be filled with the first fruit of the Spirit: love. Know your Saviour. Know your wife.

The Submission of a Spirit-filled Wife

INTRO 1) Paul's command to women is linked to God's eternal purpose (Eph 1:10) Marriage is a picture of the go1spel of Christ summing all under His reign. 2) This is a major component of what it looks like to walk in a manner worthy of our calling in Eph 4. 3) It's impossible apart from the Holy Spirit. 4) This may be one of the greatest areas of spiritual warfare for wives. STARTLING COMMAND This was as offensive in Paul's day as now. Submission must characterize all Christians. It need not be taken negatively; Chirst submitted to the Father. There are differing degrees in family, church, and the world. To whom? Their OWN husbands. How? As to the Lord. When wives submit to their own husbands, they submit to Christ who put their husbands over them. THEOLOGICAL REASON Gk. kephale: leadership & authority; second meaning of provision. Women & men are equal in value, dignity, worth, but there are complementary roles. Women is a helpmate, but this is not derogatory. 1Cor 11 Headship & submission to it is not bad. Honouring the husband gives honour to Christ. EXAMPLE EMULATED The Church's submission to Christ is the model of a wife's submission. It's not a duty but a disposition. Wives should cultivate a spirit of submission that honours God. It is not about honouring the husband but the Lord. Wives must submit in everything that honours Christ. APPLICATION Christ is the Saviour, not the husband. If marriage is for the glory of God, and submitting to imperfect husband makes that marriage better, submitting to the husband gives glory to God, and if God is for His glory then He will give the grace to glorify him. He is able and willing. Doubt no more.

The Family and Spiritual Warfare

Marriage and family has been divinely instituted by God and is a means by which God seeks to fill the world with His glory. Thus, Satan desires to undermine God's glory by directly attacking families. Where does this battle take place? It takes place in the mind. We must, therefore, guard our minds by renewing it with God's Word and constantly reminding ourselves of and meditating on the Gospel. Men especially must take the reigns and lead their families according to the Word. What are some necessary precautions? 1) We must be aware of the spiritual battle taking place. 2) We must know the enemy and his tactics. 3) We must know which weapons are ours and how to use them.

Putting the Mission into Submission

The principle of submission not only effects our relationships, but when we get Spirit-enabled submission, it affects our world. WHAT is Paul saying? We are to be under the Spirit's agency, submitting to another out of fear of Christ. What does it mean to submit? Only when we see Christ properly will we see others properly. Examples Rom 15:1-3 We put up with and please others to build them up for their own good. FOR Christ did not please Himself. Phil 2:1-8 We must seek others' interests. FOR Christ humbled Himself as a man and to death on the cross. John 13:1-17 Jesus washed the feet of sinners because He loved them. As He did, so should we. FOR He, our Teacher and Lord, did this as an example for us. Mark 10:35-45 Greatness is about humbling ourselves. We must be slave of all. FOR Jesus did not come to be served but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many. TO WHOM do we submit? All Christians submit to all Christians. It pleases Christ when His body lives in harmony. Though we submit to one another, there are different expressions of submission. A husband's submission is different than that of his wife's. Two cautions Egalitarianism: All God's role distinctions are abolished. Dictatorship: We abuse role distinctions and forget v21. We must maintain these role distinctions in the Spirit of Christ's humility. WHY do we submit? Out of fear of Christ. We must do all out of fear, reverence, and adoration for Christ. To have fear of Christ is to be overwhelmed, controlled, and filled with the wonder of who He is and what He has done (Psalm 130). It is cultivated when we look on Him and go back to the Gospel. Let us get in the Word.

Hindrances to the Spirit's Filling

The Church has many means of graces: prayer, the Word, corporate fellowship. As John Piper puts it, we have a “waterfall of grace”. Why can we stand under this waterfall and yet remain so dry? We put up umbrellas, hindrances to the Spirit's filling: Incredulity (Unbelief) There are those who come to church weekly, yet remain dead in their sins. They come for all the wrong reasons, hidden reefs at love feasts (Jude 12). If you are not indwelt and regenerated by the Spirit, you cannot be filled with Him, regardless of your denomination, creeds, or knowledge. Ignorance Many of us think we don't need to be filled with the Spirit. We are like the disciples of Mark 9, relying on our flesh. Yet this kind comes out only by prayer and fasting. We have many fancy schemes; what we need is the Spirit. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for they know they need help. We must have an all-absorbing desire to be filled. Indolence (Sloth) Prov 15:19, 20:4, 21:25, 26:13-14, 26:16 We may say we desire to be filled with the Spirit, and yet not do anything about. It's not enough to crave or have good intentions. In times of grace, we go and do other things. We refuse to work, refuse to be in the Word. We make all these excuses to appropriate these means of grace. Idolatry We are so dry because there is sin or an idol that needs to be repented of. Like Achan, we leave idols. We are concerned with the wrong house (Haggai 1). We must examine our hearts. What occupies our imagination? What will we not give up? God is jealous for our time, our affections, for His Spirit that dwells in us (James 4). The solution? Repent and believe the Gospel. Humble yourself and seek God and pray.

Spirit-filled Christian Living

To be filled with the Spirit is to be under His total control. The Greek word, pleroo, (present tense, passive voice) indicates a continuous submission to the Spirit's control and that we are the recipients. Yet although we can't cause the Spirit to move, we must yield to Him. It's like putting up a sail to let the wind direct you. The primary means of being Spirit-filled is to let the Word of Christ abide in you richly (Col 3:16). To be filled in, by, with the Spirit is simply to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ and let it saturate every part of your being. If you are lacking being filled with the Spirit, think of Christ as often as possible. The Spirit fills the heart He feels at home in, which is when we are filled with the Word. Just as the Word apart from the Spirit is lifeless, so also the Spirit apart from the Word is powerless. Being filled with the Spirit results in speaking and instructing Christ-exalting words to each other. It results in the edification of others. We come to a community to praise God and also to build each other up. It also results in singing songs to God that are spiritually-inspired, with Word-centred, Christ-oriented content that magnifies God than man. We must sing to our Saviour, not each other. When we are Spirit-filled, we will sing to our Saviour with all our heart. In addition, it results in thanksgiving, in contrast to being filled with self, which leads to thanklessness. When are Spirit-filled, we will be characterized by thankfulness always for all things, because even in trials we can cry to God for help, and He uses them to conform us to Christ. Finally, this results in submitting (expanded next sermon).

But Be Filled with the Spirit

To be filled with the Spirit may be Paul's most important command. The Holy Spirit is the source of power and light of the Church. Without light, we will not be seen. As with Ephesus in Rev. 2, if a church no longer has life and has lost its first love, Jesus will remove His Spirit without warning. What does it mean to be filled with the Spirit? It is to yield to the influence He exerts over His people as Lord. When we're filled with Holy Spirit, He enables us to do what God commands, what we naturally could never do. He's not an impersonal force but a person whom we need to submit to, yield to, give over to like a friend. We must follow His lead and obey Him in all parts of our lives. We must ruthlessly deal with our sin and clear our temples of any idols, for we can't be filled while we still have unrepentant sin. How do we be filled with the Spirit? Community living. Christianity is not a maverick religion. If you live an isolated Christian life, void of any meaning fellowship, chances are you are not filled with the Spirit. Word-centred fellowship. This is more than just hanging out; it's teaching, preaching, singing, and praying about Christ. The Holy Spirit loves Christ; when Christ is proclaimed, the Spirit is irresistibly attracted. God-exalting thanksgiving. God's will is that we should thank Him for all that He has done in Christ. When we refuse, the Spirit is grieved. When we're filled with thankfulness, we're filled with the Spirit. Christ-like submission. We need not only to submit to the Spirit, but to submit to one another out of fear and reverence to God. We must submit to one another as Christ submitted Himself to the Father.

Redeeming the Time Redemptively

Wisdom is not just accumulating facts or ascribing to creeds, but understanding what God's will is and what pleases Him and living in light of it. Biblical wisdom is having skill in finding out what pleases the Lord and carrying it out. We cannot have Biblical wisdom until we fear the Lord and see Him aright. And so let us look to Christ. If we fear God, we'll live differently. We must seek wisdom with all our heart in prayer and in the Word. God will give it to those who diligently seek it. Why should we walk wisely? Because Christ shining His light on us and others depends on it. When believers arise and awake, Christ's light shines on them. When Christ's light shines on His people, His light shines on the world. We cannot afford to walk foolishly; thus, wake up and walk wisely! How should we walk wisely? First we need to watch ourselves carefully. The world is evil. We must watch our steps and be in the Word; it is a lamp to our feet. The Word of God is our objective to which we are to walk in accordance with. We must have intentional, focused moral introspection, for our heart guides our steps. Second, we must war ruthlessly. The world is a war. Satan is a roaring lion. We must redeem the time and buy it back from slavery. It's so important; we need to buy it for ourselves and make the best of every opportunity. Even in the mundane, in every moment, redeem it. Third, we must weigh the Lord's will thoughtfully. His will is to sum up all things in Christ (Eph 1:10). We must see Christ and His purpose accurately. A wise Christian is one whose lifestyle is increasingly being brought into conformity with God's wonderful plan of saving men and women in Christ.

Holiness and Evangelism

Walking in light means having nothing to do with unfruitful works of darkness. We must dwell in the light to bear fruit, and want to bear more fruit because we love God. It doesn't matter if we are mocked for the gospel; Christ was. If we don't long for the salvation of others, we are not saved ourselves. We must expose the darkness, and not imitate the world, nor disconnect from it, but confront it. Let us not be identified with darkness. It is possible to reprove the acts of darkness without participating in them, as Jesus did. What we win others with, we win others to. Some sins are too spiritually corrupting to be spoken about, and should only be exposed to the extent to rid them. Let us not overindulge in the sins of our past, lest we corrupt others. Love should be our motivation for reproof. Either we love God and others to share the gospel, or we love ourselves that we keep silent. We should also expose darkness in each other's lives and build one another up in love. We expose darkness by shining light. If there is no light, there is no exposing, then no conviction, no repentance, and ultimately no salvation. We need God's presence; Christ is the true light. We expose darkness by God's Word which cuts to the heart, and also through good works. Others should see and ask us of our difference. We can confidently share the gospel because salvation is possible, because light can transform darkness. Abide in Christ. Be filled with the Spirit. Prayerfully study Christ's life. Read the Bible. Lead your families in devotions, prayer, and also in good works. Prayer for strength to expose darkness. Engage in pubic evangelism.

Holiness - The Danger of Partnering w/ Darkness

It is dangerous to walk with darkness. The first danger is that it leads to compromise. Bad company corrupts good morals. We must not fall into the danger of thinking that we can associate with the unsaved and win them over. Instead, we should avoid partnership with the world, but not our presence in it. The second danger is that walking with those in darkness may lead to God's judgement. If all we do is walk with darkness, this may mean we are also darkness. Let us not trifle with God's judgement. If we enjoy hanging out with unbelievers more than fellow Christians, we should be very careful. We must have a balance, neither being as the world to win the world nor separating ourselves from it. The balance is that we should gather together with Christians so we can reach the world. Be for the church for the world. Gather together for spreading the gospel. The more we partner with unbelievers the less we win them, but the more we partner with believers the more we win unbelievers. We should regularly gather together with other Christians to build each other up. In addition, we have a duty as those who walk in the light. We were darkness, spiritually ignorant and resistant, but we are now children of light, and therefore, are to look like our Father. This we will know by the fruit of the Spirit: goodness (doing good), righteousness (right living, obedience), and truth (speaking it in love). We must have spiritual discernment, testing all things and keeping only that which is pleasing to the Lord. How will we know what is pleasing to God? Abide in Christ. Have an intimate relationship with Him. Seek Him.

Holiness - Avoiding Porneia & Greed

Sexual sin is not something new. It is prevalent in the world, including the church. We should not hide from dealing with it, but fight it together, teaching our children before the world teaches them. We must put off all filthiness (Gk. porneia). This is any sexual activity outside of marriage. We should also put off all impurity (sexual impropriety). We cannot walk in a manner worthy of the gospel and still indulge in sexual sins. Adultery flows from idolatry, for we seek to get more out of life because we think Christ is not enough. We must go to the gospel and overcome inferior lusts with the superior love of Christ, the blameless, pure, spotless Lamb, whom we are to imitate. We must put off covetousness. This is an ungodly, insatiable desire for more. Let us instead fix our gaze upon Christ, who was not greedy, but poured out His life. We must also put away filthy conversation. We should not think we can handle them, but should flee from them. Our lives must be marked by thankfulness. Holiness flows out of thankfulness, for we express our thankfulness because we love Christ and want to live differently for Him. Non-Christians should see us and name us as thankful people, not fornicators or idolaters. We should beware deceitfulness. We are called to a life of holiness because God is holy, and we cannot just accept Jesus into our heart as a ticket out of hell and then do whatever we want. We must guard our hearts and hide God's word in it. If something is causing us to sin (eg. a computer used for porn), we must get rid of it. We must hate our sin. Do not trade the glory and treasure of Christ for the garbage of this world.

Imitating God by Walking in Love

God is love. We imitate God by walking in love, for God is love. Even His holiness flows out of His love. We are to imitate our God as His beloved (agapetos) children. He has a special, willing, intentional, sacrificial love for us! This should move our hearts to want to know more about and imitate God's great love. We are His children! We cannot imitate God without being born again. The motivation of all of our obedience is love. The two come hand in hand. Love produces holiness, blamelessness, and obedience. If we love, all other commandments should flow naturally. Love requires will. Christ willingly lay down His life for us, and we should also be willing to lay down our lives for others. Others should know that we are Christians because we mimic the love of Christ, which is the greatest indication of godliness and maturity in a Christian. We must gaze and feast upon Christ. We must strive and resolve to comprehend His great love by reading His Word that we would reflect His love to others. To be filled with the fullness of God is to comprehend the love of Christ and live it. We behave like Christ by beholding and believing in Him.

How Grace Moves Us from Forgiven to Forgiving

We MUST ruthlessly put off every kind of unforgiveness and deal with bitterness before it escalates into wrath, anger, clamor, and blasphemy. Bitterness is the harbouring of resentment, which is poisonous to ourselves and others, while malice, the desire to harm others, is the engine of bitterness. Unforgiveness is idolatry because we want sovereign control and believe that our own sense of justice is greater than God's punishment in Hell or His mercy on the cross. Instead, we MUST put on forgiveness, which is the expression of kindness and tenderheartedness, that is, showing grace to others. Kindness is seeking the good of others. God expressed His kindness towards us through salvation. Tenderheartedness is being filled with goodness and wanting to express it. We should forgive others right away without delay. We must always be forgiving by renewing our minds daily through the Word of truth, relearning the gospel everyday. Finally, a warning that if we cannot forgive, this may mean we have never experienced God's forgiveness ourselves.

The Power of the Tongue in Christ's Body

Every word corrupting from your mouth you MUST NOT let come out. Just a little bit of corrupting talk may corrupt much. And so we must put off things like gossip and slander. Not only that, but we are to put on speech that edifies. If anything good towards building up of the need you MUST let come out of your mouth. Thus, if we have anything good to say, we must intentionally say it. Let us speak scripture to one another and memorize God's Word so that with it we may build each other up. Our greatest motivation is this: that we do not grieve the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. Hurtful words are hurtful to God. He loves people. Let us therefore not attack others that the Holy Spirit loves.

We are to put off stealing, which is rooted in deception and pride. This even includes forms of inconspicuous stealing, such as not giving to God, not working hard when we should, or stealing time from our spouses by not helping them out around the house. Instead, we are to put on giving, which the Gospel enables us to do, for God, the greatest Giver, gave His only Son who gave Himself up as an offering and sacrifice. We should then work hard, not for selfish reasons, but that we may have something to give to those in need. **One application that was not mentioned was that the illegal download of music or movies from the Internet is also theft. No Christian has any justification or excuse for this kind of unjust stealing, regardless of who they are stealing from. We are to imitate Christ, not Robin Hood!

This Truth comes the first 'putting off' is Falsehood, which is 'lying' that we must speak the truth in love in Christ for the glory of the body of Christ. Note: For further study of this 'falsehood doctrine', you can go to external link above this overview. But that link is actually in 'edocs' and it will give the Apologetic re White Lies-it's Biblical Inconsistency.

note: the final 1/4 of the sermon was not recorded, but the outline for this portion was as follows: Romans 1:16; 2 Cor. 3:18 – both justification and sanctification are a result by hearing with faith. In other words, all transformation requires gospel proclamation. 1. Conversion/Regeneration - rom. 8:7 - eze. 36:22-29a (cf. eph. 1:13-14) - 1 tim. 2:4; 2 tim. 2:25 2. Sanctification - tit. 1:1 - eph. 4:24 (NET) - "holiness & righteousness that flow from the truth" - psa. 19:6ff. - psa. 119 application - "redeem the time" by "walking not as unwise, but as wise". - disciplined Bible saturation (reading & memorization & meditation). - requires a community of "truthers in love".

Great sermon to pass along to those Christians who refuse to commit to a local church. A great reminder that there is no such thing as an invisible Christian, or even a Christian who thinks it his or her duty to simply show up to church on Sunday. (diversity of gifts & unity in spirit will lead towards maturity of the church that will give the results of the completion of the Universal Body of Christ by preaching the True Gospel).

Members of a local Church should be partakers of the sufferings of Christ so that the Church grows according to His Grace even under persecutions. Listen to this controversial topic of Church growth under His Grace, even with persecution and sufferings. Prayer, Persecution and Proclamation will be the main topics of chapter 3. Listen and prepare for the spiritual growth of a local church even under persecutions and sufferings. It is a must to listen! Ryan's volcanic eruptions of message flowing with lavas of biblical truth. A tripple amen!!!!!

The Two Necessary Fruits of Conversion

A sermon that could be titled, "What is a true Christian?" Basically, we look at the two fruits that Paul saw in the church at Ephesus, which caused him to give thanks to God for their salvation, as well as a prayer to God for their sanctification. These two essential fruits are: 1. Faith in the Lord Jesus (also commonly called "Lordship salvation") 2. Love for God's elect A great sermon to give to professors who may not be possessors (i.e. their lack of fruit shows no root). As John MacArthur & Paul Washer have said, "What does one's profession mean? Answer: Absolutely nothing!"

*Please note that the message is closer to an hour in length, as the recorder was left on accidentally once the message was done (and recorded the communion portion of the service). In this message, Ryan gave the most important but sometimes misunderstood, misused and abused word. "Blessings" was mentioned three times in this verse: what is the biblical significance of this word that Paul is trying to say to those who are "in Christ"???? Scripture, The Bible, The last line of defense in the last days before the coming of Christ.

The Character of a Believer, Saints

The exposition of the Book of Ephesians was really started with Chapter 1, vv. 1&2 given an emphasis on several sub-topics which in this generation (the 21st century-which considered as controversial and apologetic to some)is needed to be understood properly to avoid wrong concept, which Satan uses to misdirect the "professing believers")but to other(s) is to defend the Scripture & to continue the preaching of the "true" Gospel for the saving of the elects. 1. From Saul to Paul. 2. The Apostolic Succession, its danger. 3. The true Believers as an "apostle of Christ" to continue spreading the Gospel. 4. The Biblical Character of Believers in Christ ( who are "in Christ") as a "saint". 5. The Separation of a Believer by the Grace of God the Father in eternal election. 6. The faithfulness of a believer who are in Christ. ...and there are more, if you listen to this reformed preaching but puritan in approach & dogmatically apologetic, blessings is yours by the Holy Spirit. Scripture, the Bible: "The last line of defense" in the last days before the coming of Christ". Amen! Amein!
