In the famous hymn Wesley finds himself long imprisoned in a dungeon of darkness, unconscious and bound in sin. His release from this bondage is nothing short of a personal testimony to the truth contained in this Col 1:13 verse. We look at the fruits of the Spirit and see the high standard of action that that puts before us as compared to the Law, and finally we look at the great passage in John 15 where Christ lays out the principle that he is the vine and we are the branches and that the branches produce fruit but all of the nourishment and support and energy come from the vine.
