This week we look at Paul's teaching that the Church is called to pray for our leaders in order to have a tranquil and quiet life for the glory of God and the sharing of the Gospel. We then look at passages that tell of civil disobedience to government and try to establish a line or litmus test where we are required by God to resist even unto death or threat of death. This week look at more examples of civil disobedience to save life, of refusing to worship anything other than God, and the refusal to stop speaking the testimony of Christ. We look at the United States first amendment and a recent freedom of speech case in the Supreme Court.

We have a discussion about the hiding of Jews during the Holocaust and different convictions of conscience in such instances of history.

This week we look at Paul's teaching that the Church is called to pray for our leaders in order to have a tranquil and quiet life for the glory of God and the sharing of the Gospel. We then look at Paul as an example of interaction with government. We look at Paul's interaction with the government where he demands his rights as a Roman citizen and questions the legality of proceedings. We are looking to understand how we should react as Christians to a government that begins to encroach on our liberties.

Paul's Prayers 53

This week we look at two new prayers of Paul. One of simple thankfulness to "Christ Jesus or Lord" and one that praises and declares to God all Honor and Glory forever. Being struck by the spontaneous and worshipful nature of these seeming "out of place" statements we look at other such statements in scripture and marvel at the deep understanding and spiritual appreciation of who God is by these authors. These statements are found in both the New and Old Testament and are humbling to us in their reflection of the hearts of the writers.

This week we finish with the verse 5 in Paul's prayer were he asks the Lord to direct their hearts into the Love of God and the steadfastness of Christ. We look at the overlap of with the next prayer request of Paul in verse 16 to have the Lord grant peace in every circumstance. We look at many verses where this steadfastness or patience or Hypomone in the Greek is mentioned. We look at people of the Bible who did not have patience in the Lord and took maters into their own hand and the evil that resulted. We look at Philippians and the passage about being anxious for nothing but with prayer and supplication giving our requests to the Lord.

This week we move on to the next prayer of Paul where he requests that God's Word would spread rapidly and that they would be rescued from "perverse and evil men". We look at the responsibility of fellow believers to those suffering affliction and persecution. We see that in persecution we look to the "blessed hope of Christ's return" as an antidote to despair in those trying circumstances. We then look at all of the other things that looking for Christ's return is a remedy for, like fidelity, patience, sobriety, and purity. We look at the next two verses in our text and look at the love of God and steadfastness in Christ. I read two passages by AW Pink.

This week finishing looking at the phrase "gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ". Then moving forward to V15 that instructs the believers to hold to the traditions that they were taught by the apostles in person or by a letter. It would seem to me he is giving the church an antidote to false doctrine. Then V16 we look at 3 declarations by Paul and then in V17 we see his petition before the Lord that for comfort and strengthened hearts in word and deed. We then look at Qur'anic verses about the Scale of Deeds in Islam and the to show the opportunity to evangelize Muslims around the forgiveness in Christ.

This week we move forward in our verse and deal with the phrase "throught sanctification by the Spirit and Faith in the truth." We look at a definition of sanctification and Bible references to learn more about sanctification. Then we look at V14 and see that our ultimate salvation is "that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ." I compare that with the notion that we are saved so that we can go to heaven. The "gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ" is so much higher of a concept and we should dwell on these words in the giving of the Gospel. We finish with a look at the glory of God in scripture.

This week we look at a new prayer by Paul in which he thanks God for choosing the Thessalonian believers from the beginning for salvation. This is an amazing statement and warrants further study in the scripture concerning what scripture reveals concerning God's choosing, and that relationship between the will of man and the sovereignty of God

This week we look at the end of the 12th verse where Paul indicates all of what he is asking for is the ultimate glorification of the Lord Jesus in the believers and that glory would also be bestowed to his believers. We look at many passages of scripture that teach about ways we can glorify the Lord. We also look at passages where man takes the glory for himself and the consequences that flow from that.

This week we continue in Thessalonians with Paul's prayer to the Lord regarding his request for them to grow in Love toward one another and the others. We move to the 13th verse and discuss how the increase of love for others is an integral part of the Lord establishing our hearts in holiness. We discuss holiness in our lives and at his coming. We take a little time to discuss the phrase "coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints" and some controversy surrounding an understanding of it. We move onto a new short prayer of Paul. A declaration that the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you, digging into the meaning of the concept of grace.

This week we continue in Thessalonians with Paul's prayer to the Lord regarding his request for them to grow in Love toward one another and the others. We take a look at love and the perversion of love in our culture. We look at our responsibility to bring truth in the form of God's word to our neighbors. The world's notion that all reproof and correction is hating others is false and unscriptural. Leviticus 19:17 shows us that we have a responsibility to bring reproof to our neighbor and that if we don't we hate our neighbor. Proverbs 13:24 shows us that if we keep training, reproof and discipline from our children we are in fact hating them. We also look at the blue print of building spiritual Love in our lives with 2 Peter 1:5-8. Lastly we are see that if we are reproved that we are to not ignore it but to turn towards that reproof and correction. Proverbs 1:23.

This week we continue in Thessalonians with Paul's prayer to the Lord regarding visiting the believing church in Thessalonica and his request for them to grow in Love toward one another and the others. We look at man's tendency to be prowd of his accomplishments and when the Lord humbles them for it. We look at the OT law about loving one's neighbor in Lev 19 and see how far astray our culture and even sometimes the church is in obeying such commands. I quote and critique statements by Marx and Kendi in light of Leviticus. We finish with Paul's commendation of the Thessalonians in the second letter for their love for each other.

This week we look at a new prayer. We start by first getting some context for Paul's letter to the Thessalonian Church and learning the origin from Acts. We find that the church has violent opposition from the Jews in Thessalonica and that Paul has been prevented from traveling back to see them. We look at the statement from Paul that he would like to see them face to face "complete what is lacking in your faith." Next we examine the focus of Paul's worship and prayer to "God and Father Himself and Jesus our Lord." We then have an open discussion to whom prayer is to be addressed, the Father or Lord Jesus.

This week we look at a new prayer. A prayer where Paul thanks God that the Church at Thessalonica has accepted the Gospel as the word of God and not the word of man. We look at many verses that would bear on that subject. Verses that distinguish between the two and highlight the vital importance of hearing the gospel as the word of God rather than merely the word of man or invention of man. It is a subject with consequences running all through the scripture. One gospel changes a heart and saves eternally a person and one only temporarily entertains a person.

We then tackle a new passage written by Paul to the Thessalonian church. Where he is praying bearing in mind their work of faith, labor of love and steadfastness of hope. We examine these ideas in Christianity as the three graces, sometimes abbreviated to Faith, Hope, and Love.

We look at the disciples at Gethsemane and their inability to stay alert in prayer. We also examine the phrase Mystery of Christ looking at several verses on this topic. We end with looking at the phrase clear speech that Paul asks for in his presentation of the Gospel.

This week we finished looking at the amazing work of God in rescuing us from the domain of darkness. The hymn of Charley Wesley "And Can It Be That I Should Gain?" highlights this particular Biblical truth. Nothing short of complete rescue is necessary. In the famous hymn Wesley finds himself long imprisoned in a dungeon of darkness, unconscious and bound in sin. His release from this bondage is nothing short of a personal testimony to the truth contained in this Col 1:13 verse. We look at verses that reveal this truth of the dark bondage of the heart, and will of the unregenerate soul, and the great release of the regenerated from the "domain of darkness".

Last week we looked at a portion of Paul and Timothy's prayer that we as believers would be strengthened with all power, a power that has as its source the Father's glorious might or power. This week we will be focused on the purpose of powerful spiritual strengthening. That is the attaining of all steadfastness and patience while joyously giving thanks to the Father. The call to be steadfast in the face of the schemes of the Devil. To be steadfast as the culture pushes in the direction of evil and confusion. We ponder the wonder of God's work summarized in the phrase "who has qualified us."

We dig into two phrases in Col 1:11. The first is "strengthened with all power". We look at several passages to get a good idea of what scripture communicates about the source of the believers strength. The second phrase is "according to His glorious might". We look at a few verses that show the strength of God in carrying out His will and working for our good.

We dig into two phrases in Col 1:10. The first is "bearing fruit in every good work". We look at several passages to get a good idea of what scripture says about good works. The second phrase is increasing in the knowledge of God. We look at the events around and after Jesus feeds the 5 thousand and how the crowds are desirous of not, knowledge of God, but of more physical food in there pursuit of Jesus, even unto attempting verbal manipulation of Him.

This prayer for the church at Colossae comes before an appeal by Paul to reject Gnosticism and Asceticism that is evidently creeping into the church. We look at what this false religion is and some of its appeal even to the modern church and broader society. We then look at what the word wisdom means and the difference between it and knowledge. We then explore the phrase "worthy of the Lord". We find that salvation is the first step and only way to be able to please God. This is understood through obedience, faith, and godly living.

We find in the this Philippians passage the antidote to anxiety. We are to bring everything to the lord in prayer and he promises that a peace that surpasses understanding. We look at some other passages about peace in Scripture. We look briefly at the guarding of the heart that flows from this process. The anchoring of our mind and heart to a solid rock of understanding because of the work of the Holy Spirit and the eternal perspective we receive by fixing our mind on Christ. The second short prayer is Paul asking for a greater understanding of the overwhelming grace that God has bestowed in our lives.

What is the fruit of righteousness? We look at many scriptures that lead us to the teaching that it is the one of the great purposes to which we are saved. We are to grow in Christ and are to bear fruit in every good work. We look at the fruits of the Spirit and see the high standard of action that that puts before us as compared to the Law, and finally we look at the great passage in John 15 where Christ lays out the principle that he is the vine and we are the branches and that the branches produce fruit but all of the nourishment and support and energy come from the vine. If we are separate from the vine we are dead and unable to produce any fruit.

Eph 6:19-20 We take a look at this passage and Paul's prayer request to be given the words, and the boldness to preach the gospel. We look at Acts 4:8-31 where Peter boldly presents the gospel to the Jewish leaders who are trying to stop them from speaking of Christ. Phil 1:3-11 is a new prayer where Paul prays for the Philippian church that their love would abound in still more in knowledge and discernment and that they would hold on to the excellent things, or the things which are good, acceptable and perfect.

A brief study of the prayers of Paul in the New Testament. This week we continue to examine what Christ being seated at the right hand of the Father signifies. Christ's work of the cross is finished. He has a new administration or work. He is seated in honor and dignity. This thrown and rule established and is extending. We are to see Christ in this new was as above all in rule, power, and authority. He is also head of the church, the body of Christ, in a way that is described as a marriage relationship. This concludes our look at Paul's Eph. 1 prayer.

Brief Description of content: A brief study of the prayers of Paul in the New Testament. We examine God's power. The God's power communicated in scripture is expressed in Salvation and in freeing man from the captivity of Satan. The save power that was needed to move Paul to salvation is the save power that moves any man to salvation. This week we also look at Gods power in the resurrection. We also contemplate and discuss the possible Satanic conflict at work in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ.

A brief study of the prayers of Paul in the New Testament. We examine God's power. The God's power communicated in scripture is expressed in Salvation and in freeing man from the captivity of Satan. This week we look at Gods power in opening hearts, opening eyes to see the light of the gospel the glory of Christ! We look at an alternate reading of the end of the 19th verse. Since the original Greek texts did not contain punctuation, we know that these were added during translation to English. By moving a coma 2 words forward a smoother text results without needing additional italicized words added by the translators for understanding. The result is a more striking statement of Gods power in Salvation. I am encouraging the hearer to read the text both ways for deeper insight.

A brief study of the prayers of Paul in the New Testament. We examine God's power. The God's power communicated in scripture is expressed in Salvation and in freeing man from the captivity of Satan. The worlds message of "Do what thou wilt" is a satanic message, and a snare of the devil. This week we look at man and his state as a deceived, blind, slave of the god of this world (Satan), and the power God displays in opening hearts, opening eyes to see the light of the gospel the glory of Christ! Then continuing in our Christian walk we are to remember God's past powerful works and deeds.

A brief study of the prayers of Paul in the New Testament. We examine His and our eternal inheritance. The inheritance communicated in scripture is inexpressibly grand, inconceivably wonderful, and unspeakably glorious. Words borrowed from AW Pink. This week we look at the additional word added to this description of the inheritance and that is the word riches. With this word Paul shows that the inheritance is associated with an excellency, high value, abundance.

A brief study of the prayers of Paul in the New Testament. We examine the hope of His calling. The effectual call of God is what moves man to believe. Those whom he calls he works further work all the way to the point of glorification.(Rom 8:28-30) We can be assured by these events that our eternity with God is secure. 1 Peter 1:5 indicates that we are protected in the power of God through faith. We can be assured of our salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. John Bunyan struggled with his eternal security, John 6:37 was his anchor. In a sense the Reformation resulted from Luther's deeply troubled conscience and his lack of eternal security, these thoughts drove him to scripture, and ultimately resulted in him rejecting the Catholic teaching, and embracing the clear teachings of Scripture. We also discuss the Council of Trent, which defined Catholicism's position on Protestant doctrine.

A brief study of the prayers of Paul in the New Testament. Discussion of the "eyes of the heart". Eyes see light and the properly functioning spiritual heart is moved by spiritual light. The "Fruit of the light, consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth." We look at the "hope of His calling" by examining the general call to all men to seek God.

A brief study of the prayers of Paul in the New Testament. Believers will have a love for fellow believers. This love for the saints is evidence of salvation in 1 John 3:14. We attempt to understand some of the glory of the Father, in creation, in His character, and His dealings with man.

A brief study of the Prayers of Paul in the New Testament. Paul blesses God in prayer, and we should as well. We bless Him because He first blessed us. Faith in the Lord Jesus and love for all the saints are linked intimately together. You can not have Faith in Jesus without a love of the Saints.
